The SAP System Migration to Google Cloud service is specially designed to help SAP customers in successfully migrating their SAP Installations to Google Cloud™, whether changing to a new operating system and/or database system or simply maintaining both software components. The service allows creating homogenous/heterogeneous copies of the customer’s SAP systems by the combination of applicable SAP procedures and tools and Google Cloud™ accelerators. The migration process is exercised under the appropriate test schedule to assure that the customer’s SAP solution runs with optimal performance, availability, and maintainability in Google Cloud™.

With the SAP System Migration to Google Cloud service, it is possible to migrate all SAP systems for which a migration is technically feasible, and that have been registered under a current SAP maintenance agreement.

When Should the Service Be Used?

​

If at any stage of the SAP Solution Lifecycle, an SAP customer requires to:

​

  • Create new flexible Development, Test or Training instances in the Cloud, or to move their SAP productive environment keeping the same operating system and the database system.

​

  • Perform a successful replication of their SAP systems, regardless of which database and operating system are involved before and after the process.

​

  • Migrate their SAP ERP systems to the Cloud while changing the database to SAP HANA, or as part of a Conversion process to SAP S/4HANA on the Cloud.

Service Scope

 

The SAP System Migration to Google Cloud from Global Online Partners™ optimally performs an SAP System Copy by taking full advantage of the SAP Software Provisioning Manager and the Google Cloud Deployment Manager Templates. Depending on requirements for the source and target systems, different scenarios apply and determine the best migration strategy to Google Cloud™.

The four scenarios are the following:

  • Move (Homogeneous Migration)

    • True "lift & shift".

    • No changes to the SAP applications.

    • No changes to the underlying OS or DB.

  • Migrate (heterogeneous migration)

    • DB migration to SAP HANA.

    • OS is changed as required.

    • Additional testing effort is required.

  • Transform

    • OS and/or DB is changed.

    • SAP technical upgrades or Conversion to S/4 HANA.

    • Transition to S/4HANA on the Cloud.

  • Reimplement

    • S/4HANA Greenfield implementation.

    • Implement SAP Fiori and deploy SAP Cloud applications.

    • Replace or change legacy code.
